Good Article About Google Your Desktop

O'Reilly has a good article about the new Google Desktop app: O'Reilly Network: Google Your Desktop.

I installed it today on my Windows work laptop and I'm very impressed. I didn't think it would integrate with Google.com so well. When you search in regular Google, it also shows you all the results from your computer as well and you can easily switch between Google and Google Desktop just like you can switch between Google and Google News. This one's a keeper.

Not for the Mac, but I'll just wait for Spotlight to come out.

Update: It's also pretty secure. It only accepts connections from 127.0.0.1 and localhost and will ignore any attempt to connect via the machines IP address or hostname. I've been trying to break in over the network with nmap and network sniffers and this thing seems pretty solid. Google engineers think of everything.

Update Update: OK, maybe not everything.

TCHAÉ, where art thou?

A year ago, I sent the following letter to Lipton about thier TCHAÉ Orient tea (Warning: link doesn't work in most browsers). I have never heard back from them and I feel a follow up letter coming on.

I have a friend who recently traveled to Europe and, knowing that I'm a tea lover, brought back a package of your TCHAÉ Orient tea. I am amazed. This tea has such subtle tastes of mint and orange as I have never sampled before. I embraced the fresh, mountain spring feeling that lasted in my mouth long after I had finished the drink. This, my friends, is THE best tea I have ever had. It put me in a state of zen nirvana in which I could fully comprehended the universe and it's meaning! But TCHAÉ is not sold in the US!

I have scavenged the lands searching for a store that carries this tea, this magical drink. I have searched over the Internet and in underground markets, but alas my heart remains broken. This ordeal has put me in such a state of depression that the only thing that gets me up in the morning is knowing that this tea, this elixir of the soul, is waiting for me at tea time. I only have 18 tea bags remaining, and then I will wither away on such teas as Orange Pekoe and Fujian Oolong, which no longer hold sway over my mouth.

Please, I beg you, sell TCHAÉ Orient tea in the United States or allow me to buy it directly from you. Or at least ship me a lifetime supply. Either will save me from this wretched existance of dried up leaves in lukewarm water, which to me all other teas have become.

It really is a good tea and unlike anything else I've tried since. But, Since this time, I have found Adagio and thier high quality teas are par excellence.

I have since finished the last of the TCHAÉ tea bags. I have tried to move on but everyday since then, deep inside where no one else can see, a little piece of me dies.
