There's a great transcript at the BBC called Americans and their past, about how Americans couldn't give two cents about any real history of our country, or anyone else's.

There's a real sense of this here in Akron. Akron is always trying to reinvent itself and modernize, and in the process destroying much of it's history. I recently saw a documentary on Akron on PBS and it was amazing how many buildings and historical places are just gone. And it doesn't seem like anyone in Akron knows or cares about it. We just seem to be putting up amazingly garish buildings trying to act like Akron's a modern city, trying to cover up our Industrial past. Akron is ugly and a barren wasteland. But don't take it from me, take it from history.
