GeekTool, I Love You

Oh dear God, this is cool.

GeekTool is a PrefPane (System Preferences module) for Panther or Jaguar to show system logs, unix commands output, or images (i.e. from the internet) on your desktop.

Where have you been all my life? Us geeks need more tools that make us feel like we can read the Matrix.

This is just amazingly addictive and I can see my productivity just shooting through the roof. We all know that we don't look at log files until it's too late. Well, now you can look at them immediately. And by pointing this to shell scripts that only show the really important parts of the log file, you can limit the display to the really relevent stuff that you want to see. Pair this up with some automation notifiers and you're all set.

I thank you, Merlin, for pointing this out, and America thanks you.

UPDATE: Check out the scripts I use here: Geektool Scripts.
